Creative Cities is a three-day international networking colloquium on Cities and Creativity, exploring European, regional, national, international and local agendas on creativity and enterprise.

The aim of this event is to exchange ideas and discuss issues relating to the development of the arts across a network of European cities, working in tandem with local and regional arts, enterprise and cultural organizations, prior to bidding for EU funding this September.

The theme will explore the idea of a European ‘Creative Class’ and the relationship of the arts to Enterprise, Post-Industrial Regeneration, Creative Mobility, and European Integration.

I've just been working on a project with MONUK, an online collaboration between Mongolian artists and artists resident in the UK. I decided to look at non-verbal communication as a basis for contextualising meaning within language exchange and the difficulties that arise through online transnational communication. These are some drawings I made based on hand gestures:

I think this could be the start of some interesting work so I'm gonna keep making drawings and see where it goes.

I've been going a bit crazy with type lately. Since I decided to make books I thought I should do a bit of research into graphic and book design. Here are some experiments I've been working on using sticky dots:

I'm enjoying designing fonts for particular projects but I also found this free typography site called acid fonts which will probably be quite useful for most stuff.

I've been looking at lot at book art in all it's wierd and wonderful forms, from sculpture to binding and so on. These amazing sculptural books are by an artist called Su Blackwell. I really like the use of found illustration and lights in the different pieces.

This was a product design exhibition I saw in Madrid. The way they displayed their research really made me think about book art and linear progression of ideas. Here are a few examples:
